The Meaning of Life Empty The Meaning of Life

Post by Demosthenes Wed Feb 04, 2015 8:15 pm

Is there a meaning to life? If so, what is it? Is there one meaning or is it different for everyone? Does it exist outside of ourselves or do we create our own meaning? How do we find or create meaning?

The Meaning of Life Empty Re: The Meaning of Life

We live on a spectrum of doing. Its acts range from incident to intention, from chance to choice.

The first act is being.
We are given life in the form of time, and nothing more—not objects, not consciousness, not the bodies we’ll one day lose to death.

The second act is wanting.
We feel needs and desires: the need to eat, the desire to be accepted. We did not choose to become alive, but our wants give us reason to keep living.

The third act is taking.
We eat food and seek acceptance. We consume. We enter novel and pleasurable experiences. We spend our time among people we love and in places where we feel we belong.

The fourth act is making.
We create. We form new ideas, and we apply old ideas to new worlds. In the constant present, we spin the future from the threads of the past. We give rise to more lives.
